Sheldon Phillips Collection / English Townscapes
Self employed as a mural painter, Phillips often consulted as a scenic artist at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Through his association with Theatrical designer Paul Shelving and Sir Barry Jackson, Arthur was linked to the “modern movement” in theatre and productions such as “Man and Superman”, “1066 an All That”. He also painted on “modern dress” productions of Shakespeare that gave such distinction to the Birmingham Theatre. Phillips love for his native land is brilliantly illustrated through his technical ability to produce fine cityscapes from all regions of England.
